A BIKE RIDE FROM LONDON TO BARCELONA

Descriptions and routes

Introduction

I have cycled the route twice with a group of friends and we have had a fantastic time. It is a similar challenge to Land’s End to John o’Groats, but with better weather, better roads, better food and a more fun destination. This site is just an attempt to share our experiences and help anyone else considering a similar trip.

We did it over 11 days, making it about 80 miles a day. We took the easy option of using road bikes and having a support vehicle. Others may prefer to take longer, particularly if you plan to carry your own luggage. The super fit/keen may wish to do it quicker.

The routes are on paved surfaces with very few short exceptions and strongly favour quiet back roads, avoiding heavy traffic wherever practical (which is the vast majority of the time).

There are day by day descriptions (see menu at top) with links to the routes on Strava and some photos. Turn by turn instructions in the form of GPX files can be downloaded (for free) and used with Garmins or other bike navigation devices.

The descriptions of the daily routes are not at anything like turn by turn level for which the GPX files are the best option. I would be happy to talk to anyone contemplating doing the trip.

There is also a video below which gives a taste of our 2009 trip.
